Speaking of...
One of the most important prep steps we advise all of our clients to do prior to getting waxed is EXFOLIATE!
Now, there's a couple guidelines that will help ensure you don't end up with raw skin by overdoing it, but still get the desired effect for your efforts.
1) Always go simple - there's a million scrubs out there, but at Gentle Wax, we're not here to sell you a $30 jar that'll last a week. Instead, we recommend plain, granulated table sugar. That's right! The grit from the sugar will manually slough off any dead skin on the surface, while the small amount of glycolic acid that remains on the skin helps keep killing bacteria long after you've left the shower.
2) Know when to stop - you'll be able to easily tell if your skin is feeling raw or over-exfoliated, which means THAT'S TOO MUCH! About every other day is great for most and definitely the day BEFORE your wax to prep the skin and the day AFTER waxing to keep any buildup from forming.
3) Using an AHA or Retinoid - WARNING! Do this with extreme caution, as these compounds are known to initially cause some potential irritation to skin, despite being a fantastic way to minimize ingrowns! If you are unsure of whether this direction is right for you, be sure to talk to your waxing expert at your next Gentle Wax appointment!
